Towns of Axum and Adwa now controlled by Ethiopian military forces. Fighting continues to the town of Adigrat. TPLF destroyed the roads to prevent the ENDF from forwarding according to the information attached.

An official in Ethiopia’s Amhara state said TPLF forces fired rockets at the regional capital, Bahir Dar, early Friday morning.

Last week, the TPLF also fired rockets at Asmara, the capital of neighbouring Eritrea which it accuses of backing the Ethiopian advance. Both Eritrea and Ethiopia deny the allegation.

Amhara communications official, Gizachew Muluneh, said the three TPLF rockets had all missed their targets, resulting in neither casualties nor damage with two rockets striking near the airport and a third hitting a maize field.

“My suspicion is they were targeting the Amhara Mass Media Agency, the airport and a telecommunications tower that is nearby,” Gizachew said.

Tigray forces fire rockets into neighboring region of Ethiopia
Tigray forces fired rockets at a neighbouring state on Friday, heightening fears the internal conflict could spread to other parts of the country, a day after Ethiopia said its forces were closing in on the dissident region’s capital Mekele.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, last year’s Nobel Peace Prize winner, unleashed a military campaign in the Tigray region on November 4 with the declared aim of unseating its ruling party, the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), which he accuses of defying his government and seeking to destabilise it.

Hundreds of people are reported to have been killed in the conflict in Africa’s second most populous country, while tens of thousands have fled fighting and air strikes in Tigray, crossing to neighbouring Sudan.

Abiy this week insisted the military operation was in its final phase. Redwan Hussein, spokesman for an Ethiopian crisis committee handling the conflict, said that “our defence forces are moving forward and closing in on Mekele.”

The TPLF on Friday accused government forces of an attack on the university in Mekele injuring an unspecified number of students. There was no immediate response from the government in Addis Ababa, which insists all air strikes are aimed at military targets.

Ethiopia’s military on Thursday accused the head of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, of trying to procure arms and diplomatic support for the dominant political party in Tigray which has been fighting the national army.

World Health Organization Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has received his share of criticism from world leaders, most famously from President Trump, but now his own country of Ethiopia is attacking him.

In a televised address Wednesday night, Ethiopia’s army chief of staff, Gen. Berhanu Jula, called Tedros a criminal and said he should step down from his position as director general of the WHO for seeking to procure weapons for the Tigray region, where the Ethiopian military is fighting local forces.

ባለፉት ሶስት አስርት ዓመታት በተለያዩ የሃገሪቱ ከፍተኛ የስልጣን እርከኖች ላይ ሲሰሩ የነበሩት አቶ አባዱላ ገመዳ ከዶይቼ ቬለ ጋር ባደረጉት ቃለመጠይቅ በፌዴራሉ እና ትግራይ ክልልን በሚያስተዳድረው “ህወሓት” መካከል የነበሩ የሃሳብ ልዩነቶች ጦር ለመማዘዝም የማያበቁ እንደነበሩ ተናግረዋል፡፡ ይሁንና ከብልጽግና ፓርቲ ምስረታ በኋላ “የሁለቱ ወገኖች ልዩነት የመጥበብ አዝማሚያን አላሳየም” ያሉት የቀድሞው ጉምቱ ባለስልጣን በተለይም ህወሓት “በፌዴራሉ መንግስትና በህገመንግስቱም ጭምር እውቅና የተነፈገ” ካሉት የትግራዩ ምርጫ በኋላ ግን ነገሮች ወዳልተፈለገ አቅጣጫ ማምራታቸውን እና የድርድር መስመርን ያጠበቡ ብለውታል፡፡ በህወሓት ባለስልጣንም ጭምር ተረጋግጧል ያሉት የሰሜን ዕዝ የሃገር መከላከያ ሰራዊት ላይ የተወሰደው ያልታሰበ ያሉት ጥቃት ደግሞ “የፌዴራሉ መንግስት ተገዶ ወደ ጦርነት ለመግባቱ ማሳያ ነው” ያሉት አቶ አባዱላ አሁን ሊደርስ የሚችለውን ቀውስ የሚያሳንሰው የጦርነቱን ጊዜ ማሳጠር ብቻ ነው ሲሉም አክለዋል፡፡

U.S Condemns Tigray Rocket Attacks on Eritrea

NAIROBI (Reuters) – The U.S. State Department’s top diplomat for Africa on Sunday denounced attacks by Ethiopia’s rebellious Tigray region on neighbouring Eritrea.

“The United States strongly condemns the TPLF’s unjustifiable attacks against Eritrea on November 14 and its efforts to internationalize the conflict in Tigray,” Tibor Nagy tweeted. “We continue to urge immediate action to protect civilians, deescalate tensions, and restore peace,” said Nagy, who is the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs.

On Sunday, the leader of the Tigray region confirmed that his forces had fired rockets at the airport in Eritrea’s capital, a major escalation in a confict between Tigrayan forces and Ethiopian government troops that raises fears of a wider war in the Horn of Africa region.
